Jesse

Audio Transcript:

I made this quilt for my friend Jesse for his 40th birthday.  I started collecting fabrics months before the big day in November and secretly started working on it.  We were headed to cabin in the Cascades for the celebration and I really wanted to surprise him.

One day in late October of that year, when I was close to finshed, I texted my roommate asking her to put it away before he came over to our apt in North East Portland, Oregon. But oops, I texted Jesse by mistake. Oh well, the gig was up. But it was still a lovely surprise.  Jesse mailed this quilt back to me from Oregon for this exhibit.

The pattern for this quilt is called a Double Irish Chain, which is similar to an Irish Chain, but you know, double. I chose these fabrics & colors for Jesse because he loves nature and is a tender-hearted being.

Travis (he/they) is a queer and trans bag maker and quilter who comes from a large family of Maine quilters. He started making quilts in 2006 and started teaching Intro to Quilting in 2016 in Portland, Oregon.  Not only does he love sleeping under quilts, but he is obsessed with colors and color combinations. He now teaches quilting at Factory 3 in Portland, and Common Threads of Maine in Westbrook.
